In Memoriam: Hanno Hardt (1934-2011)

HardtHanno Hardt, Professor Emeritus of Communication Studies, Journalism, and Mass Communication at the U of Iowa and a Professor of Communication Studies at the U of Ljubljana, passed away Tuesday, 11 October 2011 after a short period of illness.

Hanno was an outstanding international scholar in the field of critical communication studies and an inspiration for students and colleagues around the world. He taught at Iowa for 33 years as the John F. Murray Professor of Journalism and Mass Communication until his retirement in 2002, subsequently moving to Slovenia to continue his academic career at the U of Ljubljana.

Hardt published numerous books and was renowned for his photographic work, including long-term projects in County Clare, Ireland, eastern counties of Iowa, the former East Germany, and Slovenia. His photographs have been published in newspapers and magazines in the United States, Germany, and Slovenia.
