The Departments of Communication Studies and Television, Film and Media Studies at California State University, Los Angeles are accepting applications for the Master of Arts Program in Communication through April 1, 2012.

The Master of Arts degree in Communication emphasizes the study of human discourse, employing empirical, interpretive and critical methods. Using both rhetorical and communication theory traditions, the program utilizes comprehensive study in its generalist approach to speech communication. Upon completion of their degrees, many of our graduates begin PhD programs, teach in community colleges, or become employed in a variety of occupations. The Master of Arts degree in Telecommunications and Film emphasizes critical approaches to television, film, and media studies. Through this program, students gain understanding of research methods and theories that explore industry structures, audience reception, and media texts. Additionally, we are accepting applications for graduate teaching assistantships and coaching assistantships for those who are pursuing a MA in Communication through April 1, 2012. This is an excellent opportunity to gain teaching experience and pedagogical training and to fund your graduate education. Teaching assistants typically teach two sections of Oral Communication per quarter and receive a stipend (currently $2736 per course) for three academic quarters, renewable for a second year pending satisfactory progress. Graduate students who are offered coaching assistantships earn an additional stipend while working with the forensics and debate team.
