Encuentros Boston 2013
Inspiring Innovation & Transgressing Disciplinary Limits
The 7th version of Encuentros, the largest gathering of Chilean students, researchers, professionals and entrepreneurs abroad, will be held in the famous MIT MediaLab, Boston between 27-29 June 2013.
The word Encuentros means to connect, to come together and also to find something. It implies the collaborative convergence of active spirits to design and implement projects together.
And this is the main purpose of this conference: to help Chileans living abroad to come together and connect around science and entrepreneurship.
It wants to facilitate the building of networks, scientific collaboration, and friendships. In this space we aim to share and find (Encontrar) something rather particular: new ideas.
New ideas will carry us into the future. They will help Chile (and the World!) solve current and new problems. New ideas will emerge from all scientific knowledge, natural and social, as an inspiration to make a better world.
Like the previous Encuentros, this event is not a disciplinary conference. We seek to focus on problems that are broad and complex and require interdisciplinary (why not antidisciplinary!) perspectives.
Therefore we seek to identify a space of productive interaction, of creativity, and of inspiration. We treasure the old ideas, but we look for new ways of approaching perennial as well as emergent human issues– we look for innovation...
In planning the Encuentros 2013 Boston Conference, we have set out to fulfill a very ambitious task: we want nothing less than to inspire innovation! We invite you to be a part of this experience, to contribute with your creativity and knowledge. We invite you to connect and we invite you to find (Encontrar)…
About the conference & deadlines
This year’s program will include four panels: “The Making of the New”, “Bioinnovation and Biopolitics” “Big Data” and “Meaningful Development”, as well as the round tables “The Origin of Ideas” and “Innovation Stories”, in each one of this instances we have invited renowned speakers.
Encuentros Boston 2013 also includes an entrepreneurial perspective, which is the “Ají Challenge”. It consists in a business idea competition, which will mimic an investment round and allow participants to use its feedback to shape their ideas for future meetings with real potential investors. Until the 31 March 2013 you can submit your business idea. Fill the registration form, and most importantly, upload a 3-minute video on Youtube or Vimeo. The selection committee will choose 3 to 5 finalists, who will be notified by 15 April 2013.
The conference has also opened a multidisciplinary call for posters, in order to represent the thematic diversity of our community research areas. You are invited to submit your abstract until 15 April 2013.
