At the time of writing (late October), with some trepidation, I’m about to experience the all-new online paper submission and reviewing system as ‘unit planner’ for FSD. Just when I got the hang of the idiosyncrasies of the ‘old’ system, I now have to forget almost everything I learned about putting a programme together. By the time you read this, I should have pretty much completed the San Diego programme for FSD and will be looking forward to a good night’s sleep!

Looking back to Seoul this past July, I hope that those of you who attended will agree that we were able to put together an exciting international programme. Of special note was a panel that brought together feminist scholars from the USA (Lana Rakow), South Korea (Yung Chung Kim; Ha-Jin Jan) and Australia (Elspeth Probyn), sharing their views and experiences of feminist research and teaching in their respective countries. My sincere thanks go to Yoo Jae Song from Ewha Woman’s University for her suggestions for Korean feminist speakers, helping to organise the panel and for her extremely warm and kind hospitality. We were also very fortunate to feature in our FSD Reception the excellent documentary film work of Korean feminist director Byung Yong-Joo who has painstakingly recorded the recollections of former Korean ‘comfort women’ to ensure that their story would be told and never forgotten. I would like to thank Hoonsoon Kim from Ewha Woman’s University for all of her hard work in helping to organise this event for FSD.

| Looking ahead to San Diego, I’m currently working to put together a reception and possibly a panel that will address the conference’s theme this year - Communication in Borderlands. A number of FSD members have very kindly come forward to offer suggestions and others have graciously volunteered to do some of the local legwork in San Diego to help turn ideas into reality. I’m extremely grateful for this help, since as you can imagine, trying to organise such events from 8,000 miles away is rather daunting at times, to say the least. Thank goodness for e-mail! I’ll keep you posted about further developments.

Thanks to all who have so kindly agreed to review papers for FSD this year and also to those who have volunteered to chair a session. It just wouldn’t be possible to consistently put together such a high quality programme without everyone’s help over the years. Thanks also to everyone submitting a paper, panel or roundtable to FSD this year - your continuing support for the Division makes it, in my humble view, one of the most exciting, intellectually engaging, progressive, and internationally inclusive in the ICA.

Hope to see you in San Diego this coming May!
