Communication and Social Change
Interested scholars and writers are invited to submit manuscripts for a special issue of Electronic Journal of Communication/La Revue Electronique de Communication (EJC/REC) that will focus on research, theory and practice concerning communication and social change. Manuscripts linking communication theory with practices promoting and sustaining social change are especially welcome, as are case studies illustrating or reflecting upon communication practices in the context of social change activism.
We are interested in submissions from a variety of perspectives and approaches. In particular, we seek manuscripts addressing the following themes: * communication, democratic participation, and civil society * communication and the emergence or transformation of social, cultural and political identities * communication as social change strategy (e.g., in the environmental movement, labor organizing, the women's movement(s), welfare reform, economic justice, community organizing and other forms of social change activism) * communication as a condition for social change (e.g., Right to Communicate) * communication and popular education * the use of communication technologies for social change organizing * social change and forms of cultural production and expression * extensions of critical communication theory to social change, organizations, organizing and their communication practices * political economy of communication and implications for social change
Manuscripts should be prepared following guidelines of the American Psychological Association (4th ed.). Authors should be careful to remove all personal references from the manuscript to allow for blind review. Manuscripts must be submitted two ways, electronically and in hard (paper) copy. Deadline for the receipt of manuscripts is May 15, 2002. Publication is scheduled for May 2003. Authors should submit three paper copies of their manuscript to the Guest Editor: Nina Gregg 4210 Sevierville Road Maryville, TN 37804 (865) 977 7399 ngregg@worldnet.att.net
| In addition to three paper copies, authors should also send their papers as e-mail attachments to the Guest Editor. MSWord, WordPerfect or Plaintext formats preferred. Authors are encouraged to contact the Guest Editor with any questions about this special issue. The Electronic Journal of Communication/La revue electronique decommunication, one of the first five electronic refereed scholarly journals ever created, has been in continuous publication since 1990.
