--- ICA 2002 Preconference Planned ---

An exciting pre-conference is being planned before the next ICA 2002 conference in Seoul!

The theme is: Current Issues and Directions in Social Interaction Research. This is Sponsored by Kwangwoon University  and co-hosted by The Human Communication Division of the Korean Society of  Journalism and Communication Studies and the Interpersonal Communication Division of ICA.

The dates are July 12-15, 2002, immediately prior to ICA's main conference. Most Korean communication researchers have traditionally focused on topics related to mass communication and journalism.  However, there is a growing cadre of Korean communication researchers concerned with the study of face-to-face interaction.  The study of face-to-face interaction has been a major context of study of American communication researchers.

This jointly sponsored program will provide the opportunity for wide ranging discussion of current and future directions in social interaction research and will involve a diverse group of  communication scholars.  In addition, this program offers the opportunity for a sampling of local culture as the cost includes a city tour of Seoul, an excursion to Pan Mun Jom, meals, and lodging in the mountains North of Seoul.

The preconference will be held in the Buk Han San area (North of Seoul) at the Academy House (www.academyhouse.co.kr). The Academy House is a relatively small but very well appointed hotel in the mountainous Kang Buk section of Seoul, 6 miles north of the city center.

Expected Costs: $350 per person, including 3 nights accommodation, all meals, tours and local transportation (including a limosine from the Academy House to the Seoul Hilton in time for the ICA conference).

Many thanks are extended to Tae Seop Lim and Kwangwoon University for organizing and hosting this conference.

--- Book Reviewers Sought for JOC ---

As incoming Book Review editor of the Journal of Communication, I am in the process of compiling a list of individuals who would be interested in writing book reviews and review essays for the Journal. Reviews of single books will be approximately 750 words in length, and review essays will be approximately 2500 words in length.

If you are interested in writing a review for the Journal, please let me know via email at mbo@psu.edu. In your message, please include the following information:

1. Name
2. Full Address (including zip code)
3. Phone
4. Fax
5. e-mail
6. Areas of interest and expertise. Please be as detailed as possible with this information, as I would regret sending a book that is not in a person's area of interest or expertise.

Thank you for your assistance, and I hope to hear back from you soon.

Sincerely,

Mary Beth Oliver
