News from the Interpersonal Division

Reconsider the Interpersonal Communication division when contemplating your paper submissions. Concern has been expressed during the last few years about the possible fragmentation of this division, leaving the division narrowly defined. I would like to remind us all to seriously consider this division when it comes time for paper submissions. You will notice a change in the call for papers stressing the breadth of papers desired by the interpersonal division. Also reflective of this emphasis on breadth, you will notice in our division's call for papers that special consideration will be given to panels which include papers addressing the same topic or issues from varying theoretical and methodological perspectives. Finally, recall the newly created award, designed to recognize the analysis of interpersonal communication in applied settings. Unfortunately, due to a low number of submissions, this self-nominated award was not given last year. (Be sure to write "interpersonal communication in applied settings submission" on the cover page of your paper submission to be considered for this award - see our division's web page for more information about this award). Please encourage your students to submit here as well and remind them to indicate student on their paper submission as we do offer a reward for the top student paper as well. It's not to
soon to consider nominations for the Dissertation/Thesis award.
The nominating
committee has selected two candidates for vice-chair: Sandi Smith,
Sandi Smith (Michigan State U) and Kelly Aune (U of Hawaii, Manoa). Please
watch for more information about these candidates and watch you mail for
ballots. I'd like to thank the nominating committee, Steve Wilson, Pamela
Kalbfleisch, and Daena Goldsmith,
Laura Stafford
