Welcome to ICA Organizational Communication Division IV Online

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Organizational Communication Division’s website. We hope you will find it both a useful and informative resource as scholars who are interested in being part of the “org comm” community. From our history to our recently updated by-laws, this site provides important information about membership, conferences, awards, committee structure, by-laws and the latest news of Division members. Any comments or suggestions you might have for what you would like to see on the website are greatly appreciated.

The Organizational Communication Division is one of the most vibrant divisions of ICA. We have over 700 members from universities across the globe, and we are continuing to grow. Our division members are very active in the academic mission and governance structures of ICA. In the last 12 years, 6 ICA Presidents have been affiliated with our division. Five of our division members are ICA Fellows. Since 2005 alone, Organizational Communication Division members have received ICA Best Article Awards, the ICA Outstanding Book Award, the Steve Chaffee Productivity Award, and the Aubrey Fisher Mentorship Award. Besides having some of the most talented, productive, and engaged graduate students, professors, and practitioners as our members, our division is committed to collegiality and creating a supportive and exciting intellectual environment.

As part of our effort to recognize the best young organizational communication researchers in the field, the division awards the W. Charles Redding Dissertation Award, given annually to the best dissertation written in the field of organizational communication. For further details, please click on the “news” link at the top of this page.

As Chair of the Division, one of my goals is to improve the resources that we have at our disposal to encourage young scholars—and particularly graduate students—to attend ICA and become part of our vibrant scholarly community. To this end, I have initiated a fundraising effort to increase the size of the endowment that currently funds the Redding Award. My goal is to expand the scope of the Redding Fund, enabling the Division to support graduate student travel to ICA conferences. This past fall I sent out solicitation letters to senior scholars in the field, and received some very generous donations. If you would like to contribute to the Redding Fund, please go to the ICA home page and click on the “Donate to ICA” button in the top right hand corner. Any contribution will be gratefully received!

Warmly,

Dennis Mumby
Division Chair
