Communication in the Public Interest Series

Communication has never been more important than in our current cultural moment.  Communication Yearbook

CY 35 is a forum for the exchange of interdisciplinary and internationally diverse scholarship relating to communication in its many forms. Specifically, we are seeking state-of-the-discipline literature reviews and essays that advance knowledge and understanding of communication systems, processes, and impacts. Submitted manuscripts should provide a rigorous assessment of the status, critical issues and needed directions of a theory or body of research; offer new theory; and/or expand the boundaries of the discipline. In all cases, submissions should be comprehensive and thoughtful in their synthesis and analysis, and situate a body of scholarship within a larger intellectual context.  More...

International Encyclopedia of Communication

The idea behind this project is to create the premiere and absolutely essential reference source in the field of Communication. Communication is a relatively young discipline and this unique and definitive reference work would serve the discipline by making a body of knowledge and expertise available to a wide audience, encompassing those in the field and those whose interests touch it. A multivolume reference work of this kind would represent the field in it entirety in one place and would serve as a statement by the community of what it has achieved. ICA, as the leading research arm of the discipline, is ideally situated to make this definitive statement in the interests of the field and their members.  More...

Theme Sessions Series

ICA and Hampton Press have contracted to publish some papers from the annual conference theme sessions in a short edited book of approximately six chapters. These chapters would be written in an engaging style so that members of other disciplines would be interested in reading this series. As such, these collections are not conference proceedings but are a unique set of essays that capture insights and agendas of our top scholars. The series begins with the 2007 conference in San Francisco, and the hope is that there would be sufficient interest on our parts and that of readers and the publisher to continue this initiative and develop a series.  More...
