The Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication is a web-based journal that publishes scholarship on computer-mediated communication.
Broadly interdisciplinary in scope, the JCMC publishes mostly empirical research making use of social science methods, which should
be presented according to the accepted standards for each method. Although the field of computer-mediated communication research
is still young, successful original research submissions are expected to include comprehensive literature reviews, and to be
theoretically grounded and methodologically rigorous, in addition to advancing new knowledge in innovative ways. Reviews, syntheses,
and meta-analyses of prior research are also welcome, as are proposals for special issues.
Manuscript Preparation. JCMC publishes only article-length studies; articles should be no longer than 30 double-spaced pages. Manuscripts should
be prepared in accordance with the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th Ed.). Submissions that make
use of the multimedia and hypertextual potential of the Web are encouraged.
Manuscript Submission. Manuscripts should be submitted to the journal electronically at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/jcmc.
Authors should log-in (or create a new account if they do not have one), visit the “author center” and follow instructions
for submitting a new manuscript. Two electronic files will be needed to complete submission: (1) A file containing only
the title page (page 1) of the document, and (2) a file containing the remainder of the document (page 2 thru the end of
the manuscript). This second file must be prepared in such a fashion that the identity of the author(s) is concealed
(i.e., this document should not include the title page or any other identifying information).
Documents in Microsoft Word are preferable and should not be in pdf (portable document format). Manuscripts meriting
review will be read anonymously by two or three referees. In most instances, authors can expect decisions on their work
within 90 days.
Further guidelines for manuscript preparation and submission, along with all current and back issues of the JCMC, can be found
on the JCMC website at: http://www.jcmc.indiana.edu.
