Call for papers 2013 - Comunicação, Mídia e Consumo

Submissions are now open for the Dossier section of the 2013 editions of Comunicação, Mídia e Consumo, quarterly journal published by the Graduate Studies Program on Communication and Consumption Practices at ESPM, São Paulo.

Published simultaneously in print and online, this journal is devoted to promoting academic debate on the subjects that make up the field of communication studies, intertwined with studies on consumption (taken as broad and complex socio-cultural practice) and media (the means of communication, their logics and processes of production and reception).

We are specially honored for being able to rely on an excellent team of reviewers (whom we publicly thank for their priceless collaboration), as well as on the trust of evaluators, authors and readers who help our journal reach a prominent position and consolidate its reputation in our academic field.

We also inform that submissions are open for the other sections of the journal: free topics, reviews and interviews. Please find more information on the dossiers and deadlines for submissions below.


Issue 27 – Communication and Technological Society

For this dossier, we hope to receive contributions which foster discussion over the cultural and psycho-social transformations brought about by our hybridization with the many info-communicative technologies; communication, consumption and digital literacy; the mediation of technical objects in the several areas of everyday experience; human perception and cognition in technological interfaces; media coverage of risks and advances in today’s techno-science; market discourses and new forms of biopolitics, among other relevant topics.

Deadline for submissions: 15 February 2013.


Issue 28 – Communication and Visual Culture

This dossier will hold papers on studies of several topics related to the main theme, such as the role of visuality in contemporary culture; visibility, vigilance and control; the consumption of images, images that consume us; the proliferation of images in digital networks; the hybridization between vision and hearing in today’s media culture; ethics and aesthetics of visual communication; the socio-cultural place of images in contemporary world; film, testimonials and blazing images; new paradigms in advertising; is an image really worth a thousand words?

Deadline for submissions: 15 April 2013.


Issue 29 – Communication and the imaginary

Among the discussions in this dossier, we are interested in tackling the implications of media representations in the constitution of the social imaginary; generational relations and transformations in the imaginary; the public and the private in mediascape; deviations and contrasts in national, regional and local imaginaries; consumption memories and imaginaries; transmedia storytelling and new fictional universes; the sensorial and the imaginary; the imperative of success and overcoming in today’s social imaginary; luxury and consumption in popular imaginary; corporate culture and the ideal professional; communication, medical technologies and the imaginary of perfect health; communication strategies and the imaginary of brands etc.

Deadline for submissions: 15 August 2013.


Scientific papers written in Portuguese, Spanish and English will be accepted. According to publication norms, title, abstract and key words must be included in these three languages.
