Description: North Korea remains an under-explored country in communication research. In recent years, however, there are signs that the regime is moving to end its decades-long isolation, from the introduction of cellular phones to fast-paced diplomacy with the US. Are these changes leading to a new era in communication about, within and around North Korea? This preconference will bring together theoretically and methodologically sound scholarship that register the shift in North Korea and examine causes, components, and civic consequences.
