The postconference objectives are: - To develop connections between international scholars in community and alternative media, with the active and diverse scholarship and practice of community and alternative media in Australia - To further the development of engaged research on two key emerging themes: o the relationship between ‘traditional’ community and alternative media and rapidly expanding social media platforms o the possibilities and challenges for news and current affairs within community and alternative media at a time of rapid disruption - To showcase excellence and innovation in community and alternative media in order to seed opportunities for engagement and impact - To develop a themed issue of the international Journal of Alternative and Community Media (www.joacm.org – and to be published by Intellect from 2020) - To build potential collaborations between the new ICA Interest Group on Activism, Communication and Social Justice and the newly established, informal research network Community and Alternative Media Research Australia; and the IAMCR’S Community Communication and Alternative Media Section, of which both Dreher and Forde hold past leadership roles
