In this preconference, participants will join together with colleagues across ICA divisions to workshop, practice, and learn to teach key aspects of qualitative research methods. All too often, a certain research method is isolated in only certain paradigms or focus areas of the communication discipline. This preconference, co-sponsored by five different ICA divisions, opens up space for members from various parts of the discipline, with a range of qualitative research expertise (newbies to seasoned qualitative researchers), to collaboratively workshop a phronetic (practically-wise) approach to qualitative research methods. Participants will leave the preconference with: 1) progress accomplished on their own qualitative research project, 2) worksheets and key strategies in hand that will help them continue to enhance their qualitative research and teaching, and 3) the opportunity to learn from each other about the ways that qualitative research methods are approached in various areas of the discipline. Furthermore, we will do so in a collegial environment at the main convention center, with plenty of time for conversation and networking during hosted breaks and on-site lunch.
