Parent's Guide to Prague

TRANSPORTATION

Prague has a wonderful public transportation system with busses, trams and metro. Children 6 and under ride for free on all transit. There are stickers on the windows of busses and trams that indicate where to enter and exit with a pram. There are allocated spaces for prams and they vary by type of bus or tram.

MEDICAL CARE

There is a pharmacy walking distance from all of the ICA hotels - Lékárna U Jindřicha. The nearest urgent care/hospital is the General University Hospital in the Old Town area of Prague.

In case of an emergency dial 112 on your phone to reach an English-speaking operator.

CHILDCARE

ICA will be bringing back childcare services during conference hours this year. What’s different this year is that ICA will be providing “ICA Kids 2018” free of charge (on a “first come first serve” basis) for parents in need of childcare. Registration is now closed for ICA Kids 2018.

SHOPPING AND SUPPLIES

There are three nearby grocery stores to the conference hotels, Albert Supermarket, Lidl, and Billa. A quick tram ride away is My Narodni, a department/grocery store owned by Tesco. They have clothes, baby gear, and diapers.

PARKS

There are many parks and playgrounds in Prague. Vitkov Park is the nearest to the Hilton Prague, but the playgrounds on Kampa Island and Slav Island are not to be missed.

RESTAURANTS

Hergetova Cihelna overlooks the Charles Bridge and has an upper lounge with high chairs, breastfeeding area, and a play area with toys. Vozovna Stromovka in Stromovka Park just across the river from the Hilton Prague is great for the whole family, with a playground next door. Got a picky eater? In the Old Town try Pizza Nuova, it has high chairs and a children’s menu.

POINTS OF INTEREST

Some great options outside of the normal historical Prague sites. Try the Lego Museum which houses Europe’s largest private collection of Lego models. The Art Gallery for Children lets your kids get into the action and not just look at art, but create it. Or check out a Czech tradition with a puppet show, the Spejbl & Hurvinek Theatre holds them and have several shows during #ica18.
